I have been keeping an eye on my tail lights since this thread was created. My observations so far is that my right tail light assembly is loose and can be pushed in and out causing a squeaking sound.

My left side assembly is very tight against the body. I can see where it has worn some paint off, but it's still "inside" the lens assemy, meaning you can't see it unless you push up the lens. I am hoping it doesn't migrate south.

The other thing I noticed is that the point of the lens (the part closest to the rear door) appears to have become rough and ragged looking like its been hit by a sand storm. I have only had my car since march 01.... I can only assume this has been caused by air flow. If it looks like this after only 2000 miles I can't imagine what it will look like at 20,000...anyone else notice this or having the same issue?

I am hoping they figure out something with these lights. The quality control on these cars bewilders me.

Good morning,

My name is Melissa, I work with Noemi on the Social Media team. I am looking to verify some build dates for vehicles which are experiencing the paint chipping and uneven fit with their light assemblies.

Please send an e-mail with your VIN, as well as what you've noticed with your vehicle's light assembly, (e.g. paint chipping, which side it's on, fit is too tight, etc.) to Social1@Ford.com with the subject of the e-mail as:

2012 Focus - rear light assembly

Please let us know once you send your info, as this box is not normally monitored.

Thanks all!

Melissa

After three visits and finally getting the tail lamp adjusted so it's not tight against the body, I finally pulled the housing off yesterday to take a look at the paint. As was mentioned by others in this thread, it's really easy and is actually the way that you replace burnt out bulbs, and the directions are in the manual. This is what I found:

As you can see, the one chip is pretty large, and there's scratching towards the bottom. I also didn't realize that the housing also chipped some paint off at the very top of the fixture, near where the tail lamp meets the hatch window--the dealer touched this up pretty well, so you may need to look closely:

Anyway, I'm glad the mystery of how to get the tail lamp housing to not rub against the body seems to be solved, but I'm a bit concerned about potential corrosion issues down the road.

I just sent an email with my VIN, as my drivers side light is touching the paint, the passenger side is fine.

Got the same issue, however it is the driver side tail light and not the passenger side. Any helpful advice on how to remove the light? I tried what the manual said, but it is SUPER tight or I am just a weak pansy. Anyhow, any tool that could possibly help loosen it?

I used pliers, for the first 1/4 turn, then it was easy.
