Question Installing a 180 thermostat

I've got pinging noise in my '12 despite no values showing up on the "knock sensor" PID in LiveLink. I've been working with Tom in trying to reduce it. He's recommended that I get a 180 t-stat to reduce the pinging and hopefully be able to pull more power out of the car. The way I see it, what he has to do now to reduce pinging is dialing things back, bringing it closer to stock... not exactly what I'd want from the $400 purchase of a tune. That may not be completely true but that's what I think in my head. My truck had pinging bad, I guess I'm just cursed. I can definitely tell the difference from when I first got the tune (had no pinging) and now.

How difficult is it to install? Bear in mine I've only installed a cold air intake on the Focus and when I had my truck I've changed the oil and swapped out the throttle body... so not very difficult tasks. What would I need to do this install.. a jack, stands, an X gallon container to catch the coolant... what else? Is there a write-up out there someone has for this? I wasn't able to find anything reliable. The t-stat is on Amazon for $30 and I'd guess I'd pay a shop around $80 to install it.

My car seems to be losing power in this heath/humidity as well. I need to do this ASAP. Will go get it at autozone today. Anyone have a step by step on how to change it? By the way OP are you using 91+ octane gas? I am not having such issues with my tune but I use 93. Have not had much time lately to mess with my car but Tom you can expect the second datalog sometimes hopefully this week :D

Yeah... using 93 octane. I swear I'm plagued. Tom and I have been through more tunes than you'd be able to count on your two hands.

Maybe the place just has shitty gas?? Try a different place? Or maybe its because of something else, good luck.

Hey try some type of a octane buster with the gas you are using, see if that helps.

I use BJ's gas which seems to be decent enough. My friend uses it for his WRX and has no issues. I've tried tanks of Valero and Shell V-Power... same thing. Not sure how these additives are in this engine, I think I read in the manual not to use those. Anyone try them?

Yep, I'll have tom retune the fans for it, pull the idle down 50-100, and up the rev and speed limiters a touch.

Beyond that, I'm pretty tickled with how she runs.
