Got my K&N kit installed today. Definitely changes the tone at 3/4-Full throttle. Quiet as always at 0-50%.

I noticed that the engine revs from 1500-5000 much more quickly than before. In the one run I made, I noticed it was hard for me to keep the revs in the lower range because I wanted to hear that whoosh at WOT.

Kit looks good.

My son likes the sound, but I'm a bit less into the throaty 4 banger sound. I'm sure I'll like it over time, but it's definitely a change. Now my Mustang, that's a different story. I like her snorting and growling V-8.

I installed my K&N Typhoon intake yesterday. I took some pics after the install. Comments are below.

COMMENTS:

Materials and hardware in the kit are high quality
Finish is very good
Seals well against hood
Sound is better than "intake lid delete" mod--throaty, but less "moan"

CONCERNS:

There was some powdercoating "slag" (extra material) that I had to cut off around the threaded bung in the aluminum elbow before I could thread the 90 degree breather connection in.

The "hump" hose that connects the aluminum elbow to the MAF is a VERY tight fit to the MAF. At first I thought I was supplied the wrong part, but I eventually got it stretched around the MAF.

The MAF doesn't center perfectly with the metal support. This causes the MAF to rest against the support at the bottom of the hole. I am concerned that vibrations might become an issue here, since the MAF isn't exactly "suspended" with the rubber mounts. See pic below, and note how much more space there is at the top of the hole in the support than the bottom:

Great Pics! I'm glad you all put some up...I was too lazy :-(

I noticed that the MAF seated poorly against the aluminum too. I haven't had any vibration issues from it so far though. I also had to cut away some at the powdercoating on the 90 degree plastic angle. It wouldn't seat properly otherwise.

For anyone else buying, you have to take a piece off the factory hose and fit it to the K&N aluminum pipe. It's a PITA to get out of the hose. I actually cut myself trying. BE careful, cause I slightly bent my piece (it's plastic).

Other than those few things, the intake works wonders. I've definitely noticed some pickup in the 2500 to 5500 range. The noise is great. It does drone a bit at highway speeds. My MPG went up by around 3. In fact, driving back from DC the weekend after I got it, I was getting 45 MPG for a bit.

Almost forgot. I'm still having trouble keeping the hood prop connected to its yellow holder thing. It rests on the foam of the aluminum channel funneling air to the intake. Others have said this isn't a problem for them though. I may trim the foam a bit and see if that helps.

Nice pics and write-up. I have mine on order from Autoanything right now, should be in next week. I think I might buy some door edge trim to put around the inside of the support there, that way even if it hits, it won't hurt anything.

my hood prop lays nicely where the bend is on the left side of K&N stamped piece. Is the rubber seal stuff pressed down all the way?

I'm glad you mentioned this--I had the same problem. A small pick or small, thin flat-blade screwdriver should help with this step.

How hard was it for you to mount the "hump" hose to the MAF, BTW?

No issues with that on mine. Trimming the seal shouldn't pose a problem, but be sure to try reseating it before cutting into it.

I guess I'm probably the only one to do this, but I removed my kit today... Hated the boggy sound at 3/4 throttle and the droning at full. If anything, I noticed a drop in torque below 3k, but an improvement between 3500 and 6000.

I'll probably post the kit for sale in the next few days. No offense to those who stick with it, but I'm just too old school to enjoy the extra noise without a significant improvement in driveability.

Somebody needs to dyno one of these and see what the low end power is and if the torque does drop.

That is why I am not doing a SRI/CAI on this car. Exhaust noise I can tune to where I can stand it with mufflers and resonators, but an open filter on this engine sounds like s**t IMHO. But that is just my opinion of course.
