That's how it works when you are actually driving.

Seeing as how there isn't a dyno that reads power when you are actually driving, they all have to do this with static dynos.
How is it "of course"? I don't get the argument. A fan or two or three in front of the car is fair game, as it replicates the driving conditions. The hood up is not fair game and does not replicate driving conditions. Most engine compartments today are relatively "sealed" and don't really vent very well, so retain a lot of engine heat. Hood up for a stock intake with the cover on and hood up for an open intake is not an apples to apples comparison.

Speaking of the K&N system specifically, if I didn't modify my intake with a smaller Newmission tube only a week ago (1.5 ID hose to fit the existing intake hole), I would be getting the K&N system. Don't feel like tossing the K&N drop in I just bought. Eventually, I may get it and drill a hole in the bottom of the K&N shield and reuse the intake hose for more cool air.

So thumbs up to K&N for a better insulating design, but I don't buy the claimed HP increase under actual driving conditions. I think the article confirms that. I would take what I can get, though.

Would a clear hood "trick" the intake into making the extra couple ponies? ;) LOL

Just using New Mission intake system hood down, No fan.
I would assume even though can't prove, going down the road there would be some ram air affect, how much and at what speed would be a guess.
Air box cover off hood up, No fan also.

The hood up with the ai box cover off COULD have made the 2whp difference.

Try what I did. I combined it with my variation on newmission's mod and it works fantastic.

My intake system--read the whole tread

Thanks! I was trying to figure out how to remove the dam that blocks the air from the snorkel, but couldn't figure out how to do it without breaking something so gave up for now. May just have a body shop do it.

Just bought a K&N setup on AutoAnything. Hoping it's not too loud for my DD.

Same here. I couldn't say no at $249. Should be here Tuesday according to UPS so I can most likely install it Wednesday and maybe post a video and picture then. Hoping I don't need to much in terms of tools, I can usually bum some off my neighbor though... and he likes to tinker so an extra pair of hands can probably be had.
