Alternator problems

Hello,

I not sure if this is the correct forum for this problem, I am not too familiar with forums ... I have two questions in regards to the alternator to see if any one can help.

First, my focus is a 2006 zx4 with duratec engine. I bought this car about 6 months ago and about 4 weeks ago I have to repair the alternator, now for the last 2 weeks the battery light is coming on sporadically, like 3 days ago it remained on until my car just stopped because the battery died because it was not charging, fortunately it was close to a shop and they recharged the battery, after that I have been using my car without the AC and the battery light has not come on and no problem so far ... Is it the alternator again or could be something else?

The other question is, a mechanic said because of the location of the alternator on this car it gets overheated and he said that I will always have alternator issues, is this true? He mentioned that this car will need some type of modification so the alternator will get more fresh air to help it cool. Has any one done any modification or is there a specific brand or type of alternator that will work better on this car .... it seems that the mechanic was right about the alternator issue because the alternator that I repaired was replaced back on 2010 (it was not a brand new for what I can tell however it was an original ford part)

Thanks in advance for any advice

i had the same problem last week. i took the alternator off and took it to an alternator specialist and it was fine. i put a new battery in and it just drained the battery. i was searching the web and found out it needed a special battery called a silver calsium battery. Because the alt. wont charge regular batteries because of a "smart charge" sytem. I went to Ford's website and typed in my VIN # and it pulled up my car and what type of battery it needed. Went ahead and bought that battery and its fine now. Someone told me that the alt gets hots also. My only guess would be to get some type of heat shield on the headers or something. hope this helps

Thanks for the advice ... My only concern about this is that for the last 3 days I have been using the car without the AC there has been no problem at all ....
