I had the FSA done today (and the wiper recall fix too - took less than an hour for both) and I can say it is a significant improvement. I was not able to test it longer (only 4 kms of stop and go) but I can feel that it's smoother than before (and it was smooth) and it changes gears even better. The trepidation (at idle) I had after the last TCM/PCM update is almost gone too. Good job, Ford !
P.S. I will come back later with impressions, after some 500 km. And yes, I still have the "grinding" sound when in slow acceleration from stop (1 to 2), but as mentionned before, I think it is a normal thing for this transmission. It disapears as soon as I push a bit harder the gas pedal.

I keep reading references to this "grinding" and I wonder if this is similar to the gear-rollover noise that the older MTX75 manual transmissions in the Mk1 Focus exhibited. My '01 does this, especially when the oil is hot. In actuality, the noise is really just a vibration or rattle, but some might think it sounds like grinding. It only occurs at very low RPMs.

Got the update on Saturday, Took a few hours (skeleton crew). Less herky-jerky behavior in freeway stop-and-go traffic (90% of my drive). Rollback on flat road is gone. Steering tighter when parallel parking. Also, increased acceleration - more zoom zoom. Bottom line - Give up a few hours to get this upgrade.

Dang!
I have NEVER heard a noise like that out of my transmission.
And if I did, I would move into a camper parked on my dealer's lot until it was fixed. That does not sound good! Escalate, Escalate. Get a Factory Rep in to hear this.

Sumpin's hittin' sumpin it shouldn't.

I've listened to it as well and it doesn't sound like the gears grinding -- more like the clutch mechanism. That may or may not be fixable with a software update. I kind of think it's a weakness in the clutch actuation...

The sound I (and some of us) hear seems to be the sound made at the transition between clutch no1 to clutch no2. The transmission on my car didn't have it before the 13 000 km (8100 miles) mark. It appeared after the winter TSB (january). It is not something that I hear everytime, it is only when I'm pressing verrrry slow the gas pedal from a full stop.

Somewhere, someone did not do their job. As far as I know, the DCT is based on "dry dual clutch", but the video above says contrary. Below they are talking about what we all know already: dry dual clutch. And the guy says it is normal that some of us hear the noise.

http://www.dctfacts.com/Wet-vs-Dry/default.aspx
(a table shows wet vs dry and Ford has a tranny listed for each type... It's possible both videos are correct, but I'll admit to not paying the closest attention to which video covers which car(s)...)
