The best Rpm right off the start...
I play a lot of racing games, and I always buy a focus to start, and was just wondering, most games set the starting rev for a perfect launch at roughly 4k... But I have also seen 2-3. It's kind of a dumb question but I figured I would ask anyway. What's the best launch rpm for a focus, IYO?

4k is way to high, unless you really ride the clutch, that will do nothing but spin the tires.
The optimal launch rpm depends mostly on your car. The weight, tires, type of pavement, etc. Can all make a pretty huge difference on your launch. For a stock SVT, the best launch is 2500-3200 depending on conditions. It should be just enough to lightly spin the tires for about 1/4-1/2 a second before catching. This will prevent your engine from bogging, and will prevent you from riding your clutch hard. For me, that has given me the best times without being absolutely abusive to the drivetrain.

^^^this works for the occasional launch, but on my daily drive I just give it enough gas not to stall the engine out. The only time I launch hard is if a fart can honda comes up beside me and starts revving his engine.

Ditto^ or it you want to burn rubber for days rev that shiz to 6 and just dump that clutch. Just messing. Right around 3k is perfect for me.

I agree with them all. 3k is about perfect for a good aggressive launch.

okay cool. I have never been to a drag strip before, so not sure exactly where I should be launching.

alright, after a night of fun research of trying to figure things out here is what i came up with.
6000 rpm clutch dumping w/ 67mm tb & cone filter drop in - 17.121 @83.45 2000 rpm w/ 67mm tb & filter - 16.785 @ 83.29 2000 rpm w/ 67mm tb & w/ stock air filter house back on - 16.552 @ 83.74 2500 rpm w/ 67mm tb & stock air filter house - 16.355 @ 84.24 2900ish rpm w/ 67mm tb & stock air filter house - 16.256 @ 84.17 thats what i came up with if you need to know the 1/8 mile times i can post that. i will be up graded with a header in the next month ( i hope ) i will post new times again p.s. man there was some sick ass rides out there last night.

The answer: give it as much RPM as you can without spinning the tires or breaking an axle.
If you spin, get stickier tires. Increase RPM until axle breaks.

If you run High-Performance Low Profile tires like I do, I can generally launch at 4-5k and not spin but for maybe a second. Then again, I tend to BURNOUT before a drag to increase the heat on the tires and increase the amount of air just a little. I hope this helps.
