swap ideas

ive been thinking hard on what will give the best hp for the money and i can afford. The v8 swap is out bc its like 9000. Next is the v6 swap its more reasonable 4000 with labor included, but only puts out 200hp from svt contour motor. Now im thinking it would be cheaper and id get 170hp if i do the svt focus swap. How hard would that be? do u think it would even be worth the money? What swap would u guys do? I dont have killer amount of money...im in highschool in private school and gotta part time job just to pay for my mods. Thanks for the help guys

if your in HS, then stick with bolt-ons. Maybe turbo if you have the finances available, but doing an engine swap is a lot of time, money and effort that is not accounted for by most who are just contemplating the swap. if you do FI, then you will be near the hp range of an SVTF for less money then its comparative engine swap.

I agree. If money is tight and this is your daily driver, don't mess with a swap. Swaps always take more time and money than you initially budget.

if you must do a swap do the v8! but anything else would be a waste because you could get more hp for the money by modding the moter you have.

Why the desire to do a swap? If you got $4k why not just do a big turbo kit? I don't think any swap will be "easy", heck even swapping in the exact same engine to replace a blown one in my winter beater Dodge Dakota took a couple days. If you're looking to do this to be different, save up for the V8 and do it up and do it right. Don't be worrying about pinching pennies and having to have it run after a weekend. Just my $0.02

also, the svt swap is going to cost around as much as the v6 swap. a new svt motor assembly from FRPP is over $3500 I think, unless you plan on finding a junked svt that's still intact.

my motor is the 2.3 litre PZEV duratec motor that comes stock (03 and 04). the SVTcontour motor is a 2.5 i believe
how about turbo your existing motor, then if you still want power, start building up the internals to make the motor capable of higher psi. Once you have that, it will be less expensive then the V-6 swap, and you will have one bada$$ zetec.
