bpcoving has now stated that he did not wrap the tape around the back edge, so my point is moot in his case.

Yes,

I did change it to trim the tape and not wrap around the back edge, but to be honest at one point I did have one with the tape wrapped around the edge, one with trimmed tape, and one with no tape. The throughput of the light was not noticeably different between any of the three. I think it is more due to the issue of the unevenness of the the LED lighting behind the knobs and the angle that I am looking at the knobs from sitting in the drivers seat that is causing the lighting differences that I am seeing.

Just got my knobs today. On the front of the knob, the black plastic circle has a notch, which I am assuming is the "indicator" of what has been dialed up on a particular control. So far, so good.

When I go to put the new knobs on, are the "indicator" and the back side where the knob attaches to the control shaft, aligned so that the notch will be in the right place? (while examining the uninstalled knob, it did not seem that the black plastic circle rotated independently of the rest of the knob body).

Thanks guys for some help.

The notch and the flat on the stem are clocked to work together, just like the white plastic line in the stock knob.

Jeff, thanks for the response.

So, I successfully removed the OEM knobs with a pair of channel locks and a thick microfiber cloth. Came off easily. I thought to myself, I'm gonna be done with this in record time.

No such luck. The new knobs don't fit. No way do they fit.

In examining the box, which contains writing in Chinese, I saw only one thing that might be a clue: there is a symbol on the side of the box, that symbol is the Mazda symbol that is seen on every Mazda, and along side it was "3".

There is a paper enclosed in the mailing envelope, telling me to send e-mail if there are any problems, including should the product "not fit your application".

And I thought this was going to be a "one & done". Grrrrrrrr

I received a set of these today. The originals pulled out with a little bit of effort (used a pair of pliers and a microfiber cloth as well). I was totally convinced I was going to break them but they did finally come out.

Like everyone else in the thread has said, they look soooo much better. I can't believe Ford didn't put something like these on from the factory. The originals are basically the same knobs I have in my 2000 Ranger, I mean come on.

But anyway, thanks OP for turning everyone on to these :)

It's funny, I've had my eye on these knobs for a few weeks and I still bought my steeda shift knob first.

This is next!!
