Yes.

James's are on the incorrect side, but since his steering wheel is also on the incorrect side, it balances out. Double negative = positive.

I was just trying to figure out which side to put the wide stripe, never thought about putting them on the passanger side (for us backward folks)

Offset stripes go on drivers side. So, James' are correct since he's a right hand driver.

History goes back to early road racing so the fans could tell which side the driver was on. For the driver an offset stripe helped in a spin, not unlike the artificial horizon while flying.
