New License Plates

When I pick up my new 2012 Titanium (mid Juneish) and finish the paperwork can I expect to get a new license plate? My current plates are about 6 years old and looking kind of funky and I'd like to have new plates put on the new car. So, what do dealers normally do for plates?

In Oklahoma, you get your plates from the Tag Agency. That is where you pay for it, and the title and tax. Every year you renew your tag, they give you a sticker for the new year, or you can ask for a new tag every year, no additional charge.

That surely varies by state. In Oklahoma we get new plates with new vehicles. I'd call your tag agency/DMV/whatever you have there.

It depends. On my car they included Tax, Tag, and Title in my price for the car and did the tags at the dealership. They put a temp tag on my car and then I picked up my plate at the dealership about 3 weeks later. I think you have the option to either transfer your current plate or get a new one if you are trading in.

In NM plate goes with the person, not the car. So I had the option of transferring the vanity plate from my WRX, instead the Mk3 is getting her own. The dealer I bought mine from was large enough they do all the MVD stuff in house and mailed me my plate a few days later.

Moved to "Rocky Mountain Fanatics"

Hopefully some one more local can tell you what the plate laws are in UT.

I guess when I get closer to picking up the car I'll hit up the dealer for some info on this.

I'm thinking about personalized plates as well though I've never had them before. I did a check on the Utah.gov website and discovered that the first two choices I entered were available. And no, I won't say what those were -- not yet anyway...
