Gudziel's Build/Mod Thread

I lurked here for quite some time. I'm by no means car-literate. From here, I learned how the replace my CMC, reverse switch and door handle. I have a 2007 ZX4 and am approaching 100k miles. I bought it brand new off the lot in 2006 when they just came out. With that said, I never replaced anything, other than brakes and tires, unless it broke. Last February or March, my clutch went. I was faced with either fix it or get a new vehicle, so I fixed it. After that, I decided to do what i can to not only improve it to last longer, but look and feel better. Also, everyone's awesome mod tutorials and pictures also pushed me to do it. And since I've never been happy with the color of my car, I wanted to try to add more to it. This has become my summer project. I started in June of this year.

Here are some of the before pics:

Now so far I've done the following:

EXTERIOR:
- Painted front & back bottom of bumpers black.
- Painted bottom of sides black
- Painted outside of grill black
- Installed black headlamps
- Replaced reverse, license plate, and brake/parking/turnings bulbs with LED's.
- Installed shorty antenna
- Installed AR103 plugs
- Tinted Taillights
- Installed fog lights

INTERIOR:
- Painted interior trim and center console black
- Swapped cluster bezel with black one
- New Blox shifter knob
- New Weathertech floor mats
- Replaced interior lighting (cluster, knobs, panels, locks/power window buttons) bulbs with Blue LED's (thanks starfury)
- Installed footwell and center console blue led strips with led dimmer switch.
- Replaced stock head unit with Pioneer DEH- 4600BT receiver.
- Installed SVT pedals
- Removed Armrest w/ MK1 center console

Suspension:
- FRPP Damper kit
- FRPP Springs
- New end links
- All motor mounts
- Eibach Anti-Roll Sway Bar Kit (f & r)

TO DO/WANT TO DO:
- Touch-up exterior paint (have paint)
- Get new wheels for good weather
- Tint windows
- Debadge

PICS DURING CHANGES:

- Inside after cluster and footwell led's installed

- Front painted with black headlamps (morning glare on lamps doesn't show well)

- All the led's lit

More pics to come. I plan on getting my car fully detailed when done. Let me know what you guys think so far. I'm up for comments, suggestions and constructive criticism. I know I'm not going to be drag racing or anything. This car is my DD. Just want her to last longer and look better.

I'll update as needed.

As long as you're going to keep it & hang around here, stop down to the Sedan Revolution section to check out the 'social" side...

The fun's just starting!

Thanks sailor. I never intended on keeping it. Now in talking to my old lady about keeping it as my "fun" vehicle. Add to it over the upcoming years. Then when i get another vehicle it the new one will be my DD and the focus will be my "experiment". Hehe.

I'm learning a lot from here that helps to translate my gf's car too. I'm very appreciative of these forums.

I've had second vehicles of one sort or another for more than 15 yrs. now. Extra inexpensive vehicle doesn't cost much more to keep around as far as liability ins./reg etc. & it's often handy to have a backup.

Spoiled by that routine now, a few friends of mine do the same thing. One fairly decent & one toy or utility, the options are endless.

It's no longer an issue if there is a repair necessary on a car/truck, there's time to take care of it without cadging a ride or being stuck renting in an emergency.

Wife appreciated it as well, once we had three vehicles for the two of us we never had to share a single vehicle. Haven't gotten a new one for myself in 20 yrs., she had the new cars & I used a pair of cheaper older ones.

Yeah. I like the reason where if a third vehicle is needed, borrowing a family members, getting a rental or sharing one is not needed. Huge positive. Plus, learning how to problem solve and fix vehicles is an obvious benefit as well. . . Oh and don't forget fun!

More pics.

Here is a pic to show the bottom of the back bumper and side painted black.

Here is one with the door open. Trim painted black, SVT pedals, center consol and cluster bezel black, new Weathertech mats and new head unit.

Here is one to better show the HVAC updated with new knobs and head unit.

I'll post more images soon. Car is getting the suspension overhaul this week! Excited to get it all done! Let me know what you think. Open to constructive criticism too!

Thanks everyone.

I love a good sedan build! You've got some good ideas going on. As far as the CAI, it's not hard at all to get in there... the only real problem for me was getting the stock one out because it has so many parts and runs up into the fender.

Thanks fifth!

She's comin' along slowly. Once I get the interior lighting all done, I'm going to post pics of the led setup. I have a lot of "Want to Do's" before it gets too cold and crappy out. I'm excited for it to be all done (at least for this year).
