Gas Mileage Meter Accuracy

Hey everyone

I just wanted to ask everyone how accurate their gas mileage meter is, as mine seems to be a bit wacky at times. I've always had the habit of manually keeping my mileage and compiling it in a spread sheet. In comparing my meter to my hand calculations, I have concluded the meter is generally optimistic by 3 mpg. Sometimes it is closer to my hand calculation but it never under reports the actual mileage.

As an example, today I was coming back from the IRS office and decided to set my gauge once I was cruising on the freeway. According to it, I averaged 41.9 mpg. I was cruising anywhere from 65 to 70 mph with about 750 lbs of people and packages on board. I drove about 40 miles, the temperature was 93 F so I had the AC on. I have a 2010 automatic coupe. I did not draft or "hypermile" or anything like that, just a normal relaxed cruise down the interstate.

There is no way I got 42 mpg under these conditions.

What kind of results are you getting?

Mine is accurate to +/- 1mpg. I do get better mileage when i add weight to the car as backwards as that sounds. Now on a short trip you will see a big difference in the numbers. I can coast off of the expressway and artificially inflate my avg up to 58... but on a full tank the numbers usually will match.

Have a moonroof? Vent it and turn on your blower on low. Takes the high pressure air at the base of the windshield and fills in the low pressure bubble on the roof. Good for a tenth or two more mpgs....youll feelbthe increased airflow out of the vents.

Mine used to be accurate. I say used to be because it was usually 1-2 mpg off before I got my turbo in.

I think it's lying to me now. It says 31.2mpg and I've been playing in the boost all weekend.

Lol. I think mine is accurate. It seems to stay right at 25 for the average. I've never messed with it other than that. Seems to only give me the average and not the instant mileage. Maybe it does. Idk as I've never bothered.

Yeah, it is just the average. If you reset it you'll see how much it jumps around at first.

Also, 25mpg average on the computer is pretty harsh. Do you only do city driving ?

RST the trip A & B mileage and then see what it says. From what I have heard, some turbo focus still get around 30 mpg.

Try the reset button, helps for me to get things a bit more accurate. I've found it to be exceptional and sometimes. This car is amazing. Great MPG and excellent power.
