Want better cargo lighting?

I purchased:
2x T10 led bulbs

2x 12v sticky back LED strips

and ended up with this:

Total cost: >5$

How to:
Pull the stock cargo light housings and discard the bulbs.

Take the postive and negative wires of your strip lights and insert one wire each under the folded wire terminal of your T10 bulbs (the part that forms a metal V on the bulb). This may take some trial and error because LEDs are single polarity, meaning you would reverse one or the other until both the bulb and strips are working.

Oh, and make sure the wire cannot come across both terminals! That would make a short and you don't want that.

Press the bulbs with the wires attached back into the harness and check to see if they are both working.

Once they are both working, you can tuck the strip though the open space where the light goes and hide the wire behind the trim.

Stick the strips where you want them, tuck the housings back, and enjoy.

TIP: The adhesive on the strips are usually crap and you'll likely come back to your car on a warm day to see the lights dangling from the wires. I used high temp heat glue (280*) to readhere the strips and even the hottest day won't re-melt the glue. Heat glue also falls off on command if it so much as gets a whiff of rubbing alcohol.

Happy modding!

Yeah I am in love with this mat! Between this and the weatherbeaters I have up front, there is no exposed carpet to get dirty anywhere in the car

Just don't armorall it. All of my stuff goes sliding everywhere at every turn..

Great mod! I wonder if they come in warmer white temperatures.

I'm sure they do--the ones I used are just $1.50 strips from hong kong and they are bluer than I'd like..

I have these--avoid these if you mind the blue tint!

BTW: You can cut most of these to size--I cut 5 LEDs off of mine to fit. The ideal length for mounting where I did is about 8" IIRC

Great write up man! I actually have that same mat as well, along with the weatherbeaters. I changed all of my interior lights to blue LEDs so I might use some blue LED strips and wire them to under the rear footwells.

You can order LED strips by the reel in various color temperatures that you cut to length and solder leads to. They would work the same way as in the OP's writeup, but give you more options.

Here is one example. My experience has been very positive with these and the adhesive on the back is strong.:
