just ran into a big problem.. i was almost home from a birthday party when my car started clicking like pastic was stuck in it. i just checked it out and the belt on the left side of the engine was not moving. i looked more into it, and there was a piece of wood and a melted pulley wheel. wth. what is this pulley?





i'm currently trying to pull it out because it's junk now. and i can't go to the scrapyard til tomorrow.

oh, also the car idles very low and lost the power steering.

thanks man, that's what i thought it was but i wasn't positive. do you know why it would have just melted?

It could be that the pulley was slipping and was burned by the belt, but I would have thought the belt would get much more of the damage. I don't really know.

BTW which pulley is it.

it is the belt idler pulley. i pulled off the old pulley wheel. now i have another problem, the bolt holding it in doesn't come all the way out. it hits the frame before it comes out.

Use a jack to relieve some of the tension from your engine, undo the passenger mount, and slowly lower the engine, keeping it supported by the jack

me and a buddy of mine just figured it out. we put a block under the oil pan and hoisted it up a bit. not the best idea, i know, but it worked. tomorrow morning i'll pick up a new pulley.
