SVT Shifting Problem

Hey guys. Little background first. I have an 2003 SVT Focus almost at 40k. Drove it today everything worked smoothly. Came home around dinner, went to leave about 2 hours later and when i go to put it in reverse it feels like it is traveling far enough to the left to be in reverse but there is no pop like feeling when I pass the lockout. Then when i push it up it is in first. When I take it out to out back in neutral the stick is not centered it sits to the left. It will go into every gear besides reverse. What is strange is when I put it in first and then down to second it has to go back to the right first instead if straight down. Its almost like first took the spot of R. I planned on tinkering with it tm when there is some daylight, but before I start I figured I would see if anyone had some insight on whats going on or what i should be looking for. Maybe somes tips to taking out the center console to get to everything.

Shifter cables going maybe? never had a problem on my svtf when I had it, but that would be my first guess.

I havnt had a problem with my focus yet (knock on wood) but i had an 88 Scirrocco 16V that had a similar reverse set up and problem. Reverse was still there on the VW but was in outerspace somewhere near first gear. It turned out to be a worn bushing at the base of the shifter keeping it from moving all the way to the left then up position....

So I really don't know what I am looking at. I took the center console apart and took a look and some pictures.
This is with the shifter in the neutral position


And this is with it all the way to the left like I was going into reverse.


Idk what this is suppose to look like when everything is good but that doesn't look right to me....

Adjusting the linkage is easy:
1. Put the shifter in neutral
2. Carefully pop/pry up the orange lock on the back of the cable end
3. Wiggle the shifter around trying to find the best center position - don't shift into a gear
4. Push in the orange lock on the back of the cable end
Take it out for a test drive and see how all the gear gates feel.
Adjust if necessary again (likely won't need to).
Sometimes the cable housings come out of the body attachment clips (under the heat shielding in the 'tunnel') and can flop around a bit ... requiring a cable adjustment.
Some early-build SVTs had the MTX-style cable ends (as shown in the Focushacks article).
Newer builds have a cable end where the lock pops out instead of in (as shown in my earlier posted pic).

have a buddy in the car go form left to right a few times with the orange block up, then tell him to hold it smack bang in the center..( Neutral) push orange block down it may take you a few times to get it just right...had to do this when I installed the CFM Short shifter.

Yes but will that fix my problem?
Or is that shifter arm shot?

your arm is fine. the cables get stretched out aftera while and need to be re adjusted.
(at least yours is only affecting reverse, i couldn t get into 5th-6th fora week or two without really slamming it over) the adjsuters are under the hood beneath the fuse box and air intake on the back side of the trans. yo uwill ahve to have a second set of hands in the car to make sure the shifter doesnt move around but if you follow teh steps its super easy.

It should fix your problem ,that little busing and arm can be had from steve FORDSVTPARTS both for around less than 20$ , I replaced both when i installed the CFM short shifter got rid of the some of the side to side play...now I just need to install my delrin cube to eliminate ALL side to side slop

Adjustment didn't fix anything. I'm gonna order the arm and see if that works.
