0w-20 oil??

So its a not so typical day here at work i get a customer with a 2012 SE Auto come in. brought his own mobil1 0w20. As a manager of the shop i told the customer his new car at 12k may not like 0w20 and asked if he can sign a weaver that he brought his own parts and we are not liable any damages. he did not sign and left.

has anyone tried 0w-20 in there new focus? just out of curiosity make a difference or did a parts store do a sales job on him?

I'm using it, but I can't really tell whether it's making a difference [on fuel economy] or not because of so many other variables: seasonal tires, this ludicrous weather, etc. No issues with it yet. Though, I put it in at 20k miles and I'm only at 22k now.

EDIT: I agree with you on the waiver, though. Putting 0W-20 in was his call, not yours and not the manufacturer's.

i think a few people have tried it and have not had any issues, and maybe slight mpg improvements but i certainly would still make them sign a waiver as it is against what ford recommends.

Ok i do know its used in lots of honda's but im used to fleets putting 10w30 in a 5w20 truck so that really got me.

and its a shop rule for anyone that brings there own parts . but ill put 0w20 for only honda's

Mobil 1 0w-20 meets or exceeds the requirements of Ford's specification for our cars:WSSxxx945, so I expect it would be just fine instead of 5w-20. The difference between it and 5w-20 is that it flows beter when cold, which could hardly be a problem. Mobil notes it is an absolutely fine substitute for 5w-20.

I switched to 0w20 at 1,000 miles.
The '0' part is the cold temp viscosity, the hot viscosity is the '20'.
The hot viscosity is what really is gonna be the warranty killer if the wrong one is used.
The '0' is for cold temps besides. And the difference from '0' to '5' is very small.
I have zero fears about Ford rejecting any warranty stuff over using Mobile One 0w20 oil.

The '0' just allows the engine to turn over easier when cold. Since it takes less than a minute to waarm up this little engine, ...

sounds kinda like the guy that wanted to put 15-40 in his truck. Said he always did it. And no it was not a diesel. Oh correction on that, he always used it in his gasoline truck and wanted to use it in a saturn or something.
