It's interesting, I drove a new Explorer Limited last week for work, and it appeared to have the exact same headlight switch as my 2013 Focus. However, it actually remembered the "last setting" of the fog lights. So if I had them on last time I used the lights, they would come on with the parking lights or auto headlights without having to press the button again. I parked it at night with the fogs activated, and the next morning when I opened the door, the fogs came on with the "auto lamp" feature when you open a door. Guess you get better features when you pay that much for an Explorer.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that we have the same ability, if it was just set that way in the firmware. Another reason someone needs to get a way for us to access all the richness that is in our cars and locked away from our enjoyment.

Your spot on there! And not just cars.I had a Japan brand dvd drive that would'nt recognise certain dvd brands,i stumbled across a forum and found out the manufacturers leave out other brands media codes on purpose in the firmware.Someone on the site wrote a program called media code speed edit that worked with another program that would give you the media code for the disks you wanted to use.Worked like charm and a good screw you guys feeling as well hehe.

I totally agree! years ago I had a Packard Bell desktop PC that had a packard bell brand cd rom in it. Then one day the cd rom died so I replaced it with a LG brand cd drive and windows 95 would not recognize the new drive. After some digging around on the net I found out that packard bell wrote into the OS a string of data that looked for the unique manufacturer ID code on all hardware and would only allow hardware that was on the list to work. Needless to say, the LG drive was not on the allowed list. So I hacked that string of code and added the LG ID code and now the OS allowed my new drive.

Back on topic, I bet this is the answer we need to solve this issue! On my fusion the fogs would come on with the headlights if you chose to do so and it had auto lights, my F150 was like this too. So more than likely, the focus is setup to do it, ford just chose not to because it is a world car.

How derailed? We're talking about fog lights automatically on with head lights, bright, dim, and otherwise, and how to get it done. In firmware is the only way, other than taking diagonal cutters to your wiring harness.

How has this thread been derailed?

Because it's a bunch of babies debating on why you should or shouldn't use fog lights and what they really do. Someone googles "should I use fog lights at night" and posted the results for god sakes

My Focus actually does seem to remember the Fog setting - sometimes.

I can't determine they rhyme or reason to it, but there are definitely times where I've turned the car off with the Fogs off (in Auto mode) and they come back on when I start it back up. Like I said, it's sometimes - not the majority of the time.

Oh, OK. I thought you were talking to me, since it followed closely on my post, and so I looked again at the thread topic, and couldn't see what I did wrong. I get you now, thanks!
