Nothing against you taking out your cat, I just feel a bit better trying to keep on in on my daily driver.
Any header change will get rid of your cat. Most aftermarket cats don't pass inspection

I have looked into this, you would have to mount the cat farther down than where it is stock, (attached to the header), my plan is to get a fswerks stealth exhaust and then replace the first muffler with a 2.5" hi flow cat.

edit: like focusboy said it probably still would not pass inspection, but you live in texas, so you will probably be fine.

Not so worried about the inspection, although my Subaru legacy passed Cali inspection with a high flow cat.

I might look into your plan darkangelism.

Thanks for the input guys.

Ok so I was under the assumption (which is never a good thing) that adding a CAI would somehow boost HP and a little MPG... So if I swap out the stock exhaust, keep the cat with a cat back system, would I get improved MPG's and also gain some HP? Averaging 30-34 depending on the driving condition, but no matter what it is an improvement from the 22-25 I was getting out of my previous car. I wanna improve everything without losing anything, lol. I like my fantasy world very much ;)

yes a less restrictive exhaust will boost mpg and add horsepower at all rpms. a CAI will add HP(most gains in high rpm), have little effect on mpg at low rpm and negatively affect at higher rpm. if you drive conservatively, a CAI is a waste of money, unless you want the engine to sound better.

However focusboy also removed the cat which helps mpg.

Yep I understood he took the cat off. I have no plans to do that. I am not really a conservative driver, more of a "drive it like you stole it" ;)
