But what really puzzles me is that you said you were getting low 30's before mods. I'd say something was wrong with your car, or it just wasn't broken in yet.
Looking at the fuelly statistics, the average for the 2012 focus is 30.8mpg. and the vast majority of the cars are averaging between 29 and 32mpg. Now that is mixed and not pure highway, so I certainly wouldn't say that there is something wrong if he was getting low 30s before at 75mph.

Well then, I guess I should be lucky to be WAY above average! When I test drove the car, still unbroken in, I hit 43 at 75 on the highway, then taking the back roads back, maintained 40+. I took this same route after I bought it to see if I could repeat it, and sure enough, almost identical.

Interesting topic. Did about a 30 minute highway road trip here in north jersey a day or so ago. Reset the MPG thingie as I was leaving and probably averaged about 72 MPH (yay left lane!) but my car said i averaged 32 MPG... Car's got 17k miles on it and is bone stock but I see other people saying they average 40+ on highway trips with a stock (or close to stock car) Any idea why mines so much lower than say the OP's (and yes, I know he's catless so that helps a bit) or say, got3fords when he test drive his? Used cruise control the whole trip and never say the average go over 33 MPG.

Does it match the numbers when you calculate it yourself? Mine are usually very close.

Without pictures you shouldnt believe a word from anyone else... 99% of people get 31-35 at 70 mph

I have driven 6 different 12s at 70+ and have never gone over 35 mpg on any of them.

The MPG really takes a hit when you go up any kind of incline. On the way to Lansing from Detroit, you gain about 250 feet across 80 some odd miles. I get 30-32mpg at 75mph. On the way back, woohoo! 40-42 mpg at 75...The readout seems pretty accurate too. I have measure 5 tanks in different driving scenarios and found the computer to be within about .5 mpg +/- actual.

The warmer weather has really opened up our fuel economy tho. I can actually maintain 30 mpg in the CITY if I drive like molasses....coast, coast, coast lol!

My wife & I just completed a 286 mile round trip on Saturday. Setup conditions were foggy & light drizzle in spots along route. 1099miles on the odo. Tires set at 38psi & a fresh tank of 92 octane from Costco.

We averaged 68mph and I told myself I wasn't going to look at the average mpg till we got back home. But before we exited the freeway to head back to our local streets, I looked and I was getting 39.1 and after I parked in my driveway it was showing a final 37.8mpg for the whole trip and that's now with 1385 miles as of Saturday afternoon.

So I'm very pleased at this point to go from averaging 18-21 in my Sable to easily getting EPA numbers if not better overall.

Nice, all without hundreds of $ in mods! When I left my house this morning, the meter read 39.6, went down to 39.2 on the first couple of miles, then when I parked in the lot at work it read 39.9. This is about 20% city driving. And back road driving with several stops, about 30 miles.
