Sync USB and iPhone Problem

I have a 2012 SE with Sync and I am having issues listening to music through my iPhone 4 via the USB. If I connect and initialize the sync USB by voice, it usually works as expected. If I:

Turn the car off
Disconnect
Return to the car, Reconnect
then turn car on

It will show the last track playing, but I get no sound. This also happened to me once after manually initializing sync USB.

Is there a fix for this? Does sync do this on all USB devices or just the iPhone?

On a side note: is there a way to lock in sync USB and not have it go back to sync Line in?

Hi,
I've had the same situation with my 2010 SYNC.. The best I can do is Restart both iPhone & Radio/SYNC..Sometimes even with USB the signal/music just stops. Once again a Restart cures the ills.. c r a z y...

There is an issue with iPhones and Ford is waiting for Apple to update the software to match Sync

The same thing happens to me on a semiregular basis. I've found that unplugging and replugging the iPhone (no need to restart the car) fixes it. On rare occasions it won't recognize the iPhone after unplug/replug once, so I have to do it again.

Not ideal obviously, and I hope they come out with an update somewhere along the way, but it's manageable. For now.

If the iPhone is playing but you can't hear anything, go into the phone, iPod/music menu, and change the output (small rectangle icon with an arrow in it). It seems to enjoy picking the wrong output on the phone, but is easy to reselect the other one.

Hmm. I'll try this. It makes sense because I don't get the accessory screen on the phone like I do in my other car. It must not be true iPod integration... maybe I just need a Zune :p

I had the same happen on my 2010 Mustang with Sync and figured it out. By clicking on the rectangle with the arrow, you can select the output source. Your options will be Sync (Bluetooth Audio) and the Dock Connector. I think when you start the car, Bluetooth pairs Sync and the iPhone, which causes the output to change from the dock connector.

I confirmed this yesterday. It appears the iPhone is giving priority to the 'Sync' (Bluetooth) output. Switching to 'dock connector' on the phone restores the sound to USB.

Click your airplay icon and select for it to output to the dock connector. You are most likely sending the sound via bluetooth. I have to do this to mine all the time because it'll default to the bluetooth.

edit, nevermind you found it haha

I'm glad you were able to get this figured out. Many iPhone users run into this.

For future SYNC-related questions, feel free to PM me. :)
