ah Se i follow now to find out the mpgs. but for the total of miles driven on that tank what can we use as the stopping point to refill at?

I believe the highest I've seen for distance to empty after filling up was 619 miles.

Good question. I'm not really sure. I always use Trip A to figure out distance between fill ups, and Trip B to figure out distance between oil changes.

So every time I get gas, I look at Trip A, divide by number of gallons to get to full to get mpg, then reset Trip A until the next time I fill up.

So you could do the same thing and use one of the Trip meters to go 300 miles minimum between fill ups.

This is also exactly what I do.

My issue is that I commute about 120 miles a day, so every 3 days I have to fill up.

Luckily for me, that puts me at almost exactly 360 miles (assuming I don't drive the car anywhere else for any reason) so I have a pretty consistent refill schedule.

But, if I do drive the car into town for any reason, it throws me off. I know that if I have 280 miles on the tank I can't make it all the way to work and back.. so I fill up then. That makes it kind of difficult to say that I filled up when the light came on.

By just keeping track of how many miles are on the tank (resetting the trip ODO at every fill) I know exactly what my MPG is. I also HAVE to keep track of the miles per tank, since my car doesn't calculate MPG or miles to empty.. I have to hand calculate it out based on how much gas went in versus how many miles traveled.

Filled up today. According to my math, I got exactly 28.05 MPG with 98% city driving between 35-40 MPH.

that is about what mine was after my "situation" arose when i was just past half tank. The two bolts that hold my flexpipe to my exhaust somehow came loose and have me a massive exhaust leak or basically running straight headers which made my gs mileage go to shit (i could see it lol) This all happened on my way back from my parents saturday afternoon and no shops were open to help me. after getting back home about 100 miles later i got pepboys to put some exhaust bolts in for me after work sunday afternoon. Anyone who says zero backpressure is good for mpgs needs to hold their mouth over the exhaust pipe lol it drove like total crap and i just watched the mpgs plumit on my way back.
