Illuminated "Focus" sill plates DIY - Proof of Concept

So this is a work in progress, will update the thread as I work on these.

Ford sells two versions of a door sill plate for the focus.

DM5Z-54132A08-D (illuminated)
DM5J-5413242-AA (non illuminated)

I found them both on ebay.

The non illuminated ones are $20, the illuminated ones are $180. I looked at both pictures and they looked identical besides the wires coming out of them. So I bought the $20 dollar non illuminated ones.

Once they got here, I noticed a "cut out" area on the back that looks like wire would be fed through. They were glued together pretty good, so I put them in the oven for a bit.

After I got them apart, I noticed there was a transparent piece of white plastic over the "focus" logo. So I played around with a simple led taped to a CR2032.

I don't know if you can tell in that picture, but the light was more concentrated in the middle, than the sides. So my next step is to get some LED strips and see if I can get a set of 3 in there to make the light more uniform. Or possibly order the ambient lighting LED from the front footwell and then wire it back into the factory ambient lighting.

So far, it looks like it would be pretty easy to make a set of light up sills for under $35.
