Ford incentives expire 1/2/14

I'm having a hard time deciding should I or should I not get a 2014 Focus. The $3500 incentives is like a 15% discount and you don't find that on cars very often. Anyone think Ford will do this again relatively soon?

If it weren't for the DCT issues I've been reading about I'd be at the dealer today. I've had cars in the past with nagging issues and I just don't want to go down that road again. The DCT seems more than just a minor issue to have to live with if you're one of the unlucky ones that has issues.

Are these problems say in 20% of Focus? 10%? more? Only 5 days left to make a decision.

That would create a bigger problem, wife can't drive the car LOL. I'm perfectly fine with a MT and have had MT cars off and on over 35 years of driving.

All of the cars at the dealers here are from the Michigan plant. Have the DCT issues been identified to certain Ford plants or builds before a certain date?

Every MK3 Focus is built in Michigan, with the DCT transmission assembled in Mexico, and the 5 speed manual in Germany.

Teach your wife to drive the 5 speed! My wife learned so she could drive the Focus. Her car is an automatic.

Definitely worth learning to drive a manual The MTX-75 5 speed is well proven and smooth as silk. If you were able to find a remaining 2013 in inventory with a manual tranny, you could get an amazing $4,000 cash incentive on one.

I bought my 2013 Hatchback SE 5 speed manual in July when the incentive was only $2750. I paid 13,850 +TT&L. You could really score a deal on one right now. The $4000 cash incentive combined with the dealer discount, you could easily knock 30% off MSRP.

I have owned both the DCT automatic and the manual. The DCT is a nightmare IMHO. The issues with the dual clutch automatic transmission go far deeper than software updates. Many have been conditioned by Ford to believe that grinding, shuddering and metallic noises are normal. Search the forum for how many people who have had their clutches replaced on fairly low mileage cars. No software flash would have fixed that.

** One more tip: This will come too late to be used with the current incentives but it is free money. Go to Ford's website and request a brochure for several models, Focus, Fiesta, Fusion. In about two weeks, you will receive your brochures and one of them will likely have a coupon in the back for an additional $500 private customer cash which can be used in addition to the factory incentives. Note that the coupon will work on any model so even if the coupon is in the Fiesta brochure, it will still work on a Focus.

My DCT works great, and the most recent update makes it even more great.

Ford has steadily improved the DCT and many people are now very happy with theirs.
Don't hesitate to buy a new Focus because some with older transmission control module calibrations (firmware) are/were having issues.
The problems with the older calibrations are well known and well documented. The difference between the older calibrations and the current one is night and day (based on first hand experience).

The Focus has been in production for well over two years now.
If you believe that Ford has been unwilling or unable to "fix" the DCT by now, don't buy a Focus or any other Ford product.

To answer your incentives question, you probably will not see this big of a discount for a while. Sales are slow this time of year and I read that Focus inventory is high, my guess is they are trying to move inventory before spring. Most folks are not having DCT issues and programming updates have been installed for recent builds. I had an early build 2012 and mine worked flawlessly. I'd jump now, with the discount and the price you negotiate, you should get a great deal.

I drove a DCT before buying my manual. I really liked it, but I was ready to drive stick again!
