No, but a swap of the APIM worked. Since the APIMs are supposedly identical hardware wise and the GPS module is supposedly in all vehicles then why can't this be released as a dealer sold software upgrade option?

I understand that the official position is simply, "no it won't work," but we also aren't children. We spent thousands of dollars on our vehicles and we should be able to get an actual answer of why it isn't supported or able to be in the future. Is there a missing piece of hardware, is it a firmware issue, a driver issue, what is it?

Nav. cannot be installed after the fact simply as a matter of policy. I highly doubt that you will ever get a clear explanation as to why that is.

Exactly! I think its pretty clear, especially given the successful "swap" without issues, that it CAN very easily be added (via APIM reflash) by Ford, IF they wanted to.... its not a question of "can they", but, more so, "will they"... LOL.

Maybe you guys missed it but I certainly understand the issue being the firmware/software loaded onto the APIM. I actually have done a significant amount of legwork in trying to understand the back end of the system, see my other posts in other threads about MFT.

I just want to see the Ford rep come out and admit that it is as easy as that to change it but they just won't. I want a legitimate explanation of why.

Their answer so far has been "it isn't possible," I find that to be a craptastic answer given the APIM swap working.

Well, I agree with you, BUT, it is quite easy to understand why... MONEY. They want to sell it on the front end and make a larger profit, but, really, you can't expect a Ford employee on this forum to give an answer other than what their customer help files are giving them. And I don't blame them one bit, even if they were to "speculate" themselves, they would be risking their job, and over what? A bunch of us "whining" on an internet forum about how easy it "should" be to do something....
I'm sure aftermarket companies will have solutions for us in do time (Lockpick comes to mind since the MFT/MLT is basically the same in all models now)...

That will not happen (unless the aftermarket company wants to end up in court).

LOL....... Lockpick has been doing fine so far without issue, as long as the aftermarket company does nothing to infringe any copyrighted software, there is no legal concern. Its no different than a home computer..... I own the car and MFT that is in it, if I want to add a piece of software or hardware that changes how I use the device, it is no ones business but mine.... Try thinking outside of the box Kabigon.

The option for navigation is programed to the pcm when the vehicle is built. Find a dealer to program your pcm with data from an identical navigation equipped vehicle, load the navigation software and add the nav data card. In the end it would leave you with a bill from the dealer for about $600 and a vehicle out of warranty. Along with a dealership who would be in very hot water from ford.

Very happy

I would reccomend this upgrade to anyone with the sync services turn by turn navigation. The entire install took less than 1.5 hours, Including one hour for the a3 update. The focus center bezel is only held on by 2 torx 20 screws. The units were physically the same and the same connections made to the factory wiring. I have an open (grey) usb port that must be for the camera, but i don't see the lead. I may try a camera install in the future.
