I pulled into a spot and went in to eat. When I came back after taking my time, it was fine while driving, but would start to overheat at stoplights. The mechanic said that everything checked out - no coolant leak, fan was cycling properly, coolant was marginal but not bad enough to cause it to overheat, etc. He suspected a thermostat, and I went ahead and told him to do a flush-and-fill, too.

I was confident that the problem was fixed until two days later, when after two days of heavy trouble-free driving, the heater core finally blew and dumped fluid in the passenger area.

Not saying that's what yours is, but if everything else is checking out, it is a possibility.
Yeah, I was thinking that the heater core might be part of the issue, but sometimes if it starts to overheat I will crank on the heater and the temp will drop as it's supposed to. I have no idea, I'm just going to start with the coolant and go from there. No real way to troubleshoot it, just going to start with the cheapest and hope that that fixes it. Thanks for the input!

I'm thinking a flow issue, but my coolant still looks clean. Any thoughts?
This happened to my old car. We flushed it, changed thermostat etc. Several shops could never ID the issue. The radiator tank finally blew. New radiator later, and it never overheated again. Just FYI!

Flushed the coolant out very thoroughly with some coolant flush crap, everything came out very clear and clean... I don't know. I added some water wetter also. It only overheated once, I'm kind of thinking that the FACTORY coolant from 2004 was just getting old. Seems like it's running about 7-10F cooler now, but today isn't as hot as it has been.

I also upgraded my plugs to autolite 103s, yay. Hopefully it runs more smoothly too!
