If I were you, I would fix it. The claims people adjust the amount of a loss by how much oem replacements cost and/or labor fees. You can get aftermarket parts MUCH cheaper than dealer oem parts and depending on what companies you buy through you can get better quality parts. I used to have an 03 focus, black on black, I had big plans for it and I bought it brand new when I was 18. I was so proud of that car. In 2004 a jerk did a U-turn right in front of me without a turn signal and I smacked into him and they decided that it was a total loss only because the radiator core support smacked into one of my cam gears causing it to shatter. They didn't know that the zetec was a non-interference engine, but they acted like it needed major engine work.

If I knew then what I know now, I should have instead of letting them take it to it's grave, taken the money and just fixed it myself and made it the way that I wanted to. Just needed a new cam gear, core support, radiator, fender, hood, bumper w/ fogs, one headlight and a windshield. The car had less than 30k. I could have found all those parts dirt cheap if I knew then what I know now.

Oh well though. I ended up buying my next new focus with the 2.3 and I'm loving it. Just sucks to think that I could have bought that turbo if I would have kept my old 03...

I'm definitely keeping it. I've had my eye on the GT concept hood since this whole thing happened. If I need a new hood, might as well upgrade right? That was the same approach I took with my suspension...factory shocks crapped out, replaced with FRPP. Win-win for me :)

And besides, financially it is the right move. My company just got bought out, so I'm technically a new employee at a new company so getting financing would potentially be a nightmare based on work history.

I'm just impatiently waiting now to see how much money I'll have to play around with.
