I love my 17-inch painted Y-spokes. But damn do the gunmetal ones look nice too. Friend of mine just bought a '13 hatch in RS/Performance Blue and they look seriously hot.

These black painted ones always garner compliments and I'm repeatedly asked where I got them. Virtually no one believes me that they're OEM. I can see them becoming a sought-after wheel like the EAPs a few years from now. Also, at 21lbs, they're not too awful for OEM, low-offset stock wheels.

The black ones would look better IMHO if they didn't have the machining..they look the wheels on the Subaru XV CrossTrek.

My yellow blaze Ti came with the polished version of these wheels, and my kids 13 perf blue SE/201A came with the gunmetal version.

After looking at them for a few days, I decided they would look better if I swapped them. So I did just that, the yellow blaze now has the gunmetal and the perf blue has the polished.

On a side note, I think the gunmetal ones are what ford originally intended the painted (black) wheels to look like.

Which came out after the Focus. Same with the new Vauxhall Astra VXR. It's a popular look. I like that when they're spinning, you really only see the lip machining and not the spoke edges.

I'd really like to see a photo or video of the black wheels spinning. It's too difficult to try and see for myself when I'm driving. The closest I can get is to drive parallel to a dark colored car at the same speed, which has to be clean for me to see my reflection. Anyone else in love with their own reflection of themselves driving their car just to see what it looks like from the outside? I know I am!

I hope your kid didn't mind. If not, I can hear that conversation now: "Shut up, kid. I am the father. I make the rules."

I think you got it right. The brighter Yellow Blaze works better with the darker wheels and the shiny wheels go better with the darker Performance Blue. Still, the darker wheels look better to me on either car than the shiny ones. If your kid agrees, maybe he (she?) can find someone else with the dark ones who'd swap them for his (your) shiny ones. Good thing the blue car wasn't ordered with the black-machined wheels. Getting those off the car might have met a bit more resistance.

the darker gunmetal wheels go better with your Yellow sedan because you have the black/ti lights/fogs. plus the dark colors on bright yellow paint provide very nice contrast!

but in general the gunmetal is the best skin for the 17"s

Actually I mentioned it to her that I was thinking about swapping them. Her response was "I don't care, along as it has wheels on it" Besides, I'm making the payments on it, she's only 15 and doesn't even have a job yet. So if I want to take the wheels for mine I'm gonna take them. Oh, and the car is in my name anyway, so technically it's mine.

It would be fun to just swap whole cars every now and then for a day or two to confuse all her friends. And yours.
