stock motor boosted??

how many of you are running a high mileage boosted focus? specifically the 2.0 zetec? mine has just about 120k on it. i was wondering if i was to upgrade the head gasket that would give me a better shot of the focus lasting. im trying to go about this without building the motor right away so i get the feel for everything. if it blows up then oh well i buy another motor.

you will be fine just do a compression and leak down test first zetecs are strong motors, the breaking point for the non svt zetec is about 250 whp or so so just be careful id run 8lbs and you should be good

You're saying that the breaking point is about 250whp, are you talking about a stock engine just boosted, right? What if the engine will be rebuildt with new rods, cylinders, valves, cams, etc.... will the breaking point increase? Cuz that's what I'm planning to do on mine with time, but I have 120k now and is a daily driver, so by the time the stuff will come on it will need a rebuildt.

my stock zetec engine was boosted with 177k on it . Did just fine. The only reason I swapped was because I got a cheap low mileage engine. I was doing around 12 psi

I have 140k on my boosted 2.3l duratec. Can't give any input on the Zetec engine.

alwayssideways you boosted your focus with 177k on it and it help 12psi for how long? i really considering boosting the focus this summer. im just doing my research. does anyone know of a engine manual for the zetec motor? i cant find one anywhere. ive had the car for three years and it is either get a subaru or boost the focus and boosting the focus allows me to save money lol.

jgrove what psi are you running daily?

man who the came up with this 250whp max nonsense?!

a friend of mine had made 300~WHP for a month and it ran perfect until one day too many drinks and friends peer pressuring them got them to turn the boost up more and it put down 340whp for a solid week daily driven b4 the rings let go. nothing even broke it just needed new rings.

food for thought.

my opinion, 275-300whp ALLLLLLLLLLLL day on a stock zetec with a nice curve@12-15psi depending on what the car makes at 12psi if u need to spool 15psi to make that 275-300whp it will be fine, but what do i know more from the person saying 250whp right? ;)

when my car was JRSC it was overdriven to 16psi on the stock motor with comp 2nd level camshafts. ran for 15,000miles like that b4 i yanked the JRSC for a turbo. this is a NONSVT im talking about.

psi means nothing u have to look at the raw power the car is putting out.

all these SPA manifolds popping up in people builds are the real choke points and they are just shooting themselves in the foot and patching their builds with band aids from the get go.

do yourself a favor and get a Scheduled 10 stainless manifold TIG'd up. will never break.

and a ball bearing GARRETT turbo. few of my friends have dealt with comp and it just didnt work out in their favor. thats all ill say about that topic.

but get a ball bearing turbo for sure.

Dang that's a lot of boost, ok so I don't know about you guys but are buying kits or building your own kit? there is a website I think it's called junkyardturbos that I was using to do some research. I know that there is some crazy formula with what turbo to use but what are you guys using I'm curious.
