Shifter threads? [depth, not pitch]

So I'm going to be machining a weighted shift knob sometime in the next few weeks, but I want to sink it as low on the stock shifter as possible.

I know that the thread size is 12x1.25, but does anyone know how much thread there is? I found a grainy picture and think I came up with about 1" of thread, but if anyone had their shift knob off and could get a somewhat closer measurement for me, I'd greatly appreciate it!

[also if possible I wouldn't mind the diameter of the unthreaded shaft...I'm guessing it's somewhere around .500", but actual number doesn';t hurt]

I believe the thread is 1''. I'll measure it today when I shorten my stock shifter length. I can also measure the diameter or give you a rough estimate.
