Push button start install (Non IA cars)

So I always liked how the Mk1 RS had that sweet push button start switch on the console. So I added an aftermarket type one and had it on the car until I sold it in 2011. I found out the MK3 focus in higher trims had a similar switch setup. This thread will show my progress to date. I plan to use the factory ignition wiring to power this and have it safely and correctly installed by a master certified ford tech. Here's what you will need (or how I mounted the switch

Starting at the top left from allpartsfast.co.uk is the euro spec switch. It is identical to the ford service # CV6Z-11572-A but it has a much sweeter script on the top. Here's what Oem ford switch looks like

Bottom left is the connector part for the back of the switch and last is the bezel to house the switch (be warned that this bezel fits the switch fine, but is meant to be used on the dash, not where I mounted mine. There is the smallest gap on RH side.

Here is the saw I used -fairly straightforward

With the shift bezel popped off and the base trim removed I simply trimmed off the base reinforcement ? Of the console. With that out of the way it now clears the way for the switch to mount.

I then used a 2 inch hole saw to make a round hole in the shifter base trim to snap the bezel in place.

That's it for now ! As soon as I make headway on it being properly wired up and working I will fill this in. Here's a parting pic for now.

I'm very interested to see where this goes! This would be a fun feature to add.

So how will this work with out a IA key? Will you have to stick the key in the ignition, turn it to ACC, and then push the button? Seems useless if this is how it works, since you can tap the key right past ACC and let go, and it cranks and starts on it own after that.

I looked into this before, and EasyGO makes a factory like option to add IA and PBS to a non-titanium. It's pricey, but looks and works like OEM, even includes the door handle button, painted to match.

I applaud you for being innovative though. No one else has tried this as far as I know.

Thanks - the way I hope it works is like the one in my 01- Turn the key on to run and just push the button to start.

Well I finally found time to fit this up- pretty simple after you find the wires on the ignition switch to tap into. Anyone with any questions will be glad to try to answer https://vimeo.com/105301215
