Steering Wheel Material Flaking Off

Anyone else? When I first bought the car it wasn't completely smooth there and had a very slight bubble. Now its turned into this. I haven't rubbed product or anything on it to make it worse but if I wanted to I could easily peel all that off cause it's already flaking off itself.

How would dealership even fix something like that? And would they with my warranty since well it shouldn't be doing that?

I dealt with this issue on a customers car a few weeks ago. I replaced the airbag to correct it. That piece is an assembly (airbag, cover, buttons in a complete unit). Once the tech has disabled the airbag system it takes less than 10 minutes to replace. The steering column shroud is removed, then a couple small clips are accessed in the back of the steering wheel and the airbag is removed. On a difficulty scale of 1 to 10, I found the job to be a 1.1 LOL

Go to your dealer. They will need to take pictures of the peeling and send them into Ford for approval. Once approved, it's just a matter of waiting for the new airbag to come in. Let us know how it works out.

In the meantime, be careful with that peeling chrome because it can be very sharp. I consider something like that to be a safety concern because you really could cut your hands on it if you catch it the right way.

You should be fine with your warranty. They'd probably just replace the steering wheel. Unless the bezel is available by itself. I didn't even realize that this could be a problem. It just seems as though your part may have been contaminated during painting or plating or whatever they do.

edit: Rat Fink's post went up when I was typing this. Apparently they just replace the bezel itself and it's quite simple. You'll be alright.
