Duplicate Keys

Is it a must to get keys made at the dealer
Or is there a cheaper alternative?

Of two local dealers, one had an outstanding price to dupe a key.

You can get uncut keys on ebay and have them cut. You must have two working keys to program a third one yourself. And it must have the PATS chip in it. I bought blanks on ebay, 2 for $16.00.

Nope, the cost to cut a key was $28 including the key, I also had to have my security system programmed, as the car only came with one PATS key. Total charge was 65 for everything

Any locksmith can do it as well, they can program the PATS keys. I only checked one, it was $75. Plus, shop dealers, just call and ask. I have heard fantastic differences in prices for some reason.

So basically buy a blank key off of eBay with the chip and then take it to a hardware store?

I got a key for $15. When I was trying to have it cut the hardware stores didn't want to touch it. I went to the dealer and they actually cut it for free.

That's cool. Too bad some dealer's want to really stick it to people. I'm sure some wouldn't even touch it if it wasn't purchased from them. My connection is with my son. He works at a parts store, so I have no problem.
