Turn off Door Chime

Hello...I own a 2001 Ford Focus zx3. I am very happy with the car except for one big complaint. The open door chime constantly comes on no matter how I drive the car. The minute I hit the tiniest bump or take off(I drive standard clutch) it starts binging and the only way it stops(always temporarily-it usually comes right back on) is when I jab my elbow in the crook of the driver side door and the handle. The handle is starting to break becuase of my constantly banging at it. Is there a simple way, like a fuse, to shut it off or find the speaker and stuff it with something that will muffle the sound. The stupid chiming will not stop. Thank you.

You can take the switch apart in the door jamb. Use a torx bit to take the latch post off and the switch is plugged in behind it. I disconnected both of mine because the switches went bad. Same problem you're having. Every bump and the interior lights would flash, light on cluster, and the chime.

Instead of minding the chime you should simply repair the problem. Most likely it's a door switch, so disconnect those until the problem goes away. Another potential problem would be that the door switch circuit is grounded somewhere.

If that doesn't work, then try this from our How-To Archive: http://www.focusfanatics.com/howtos/seatbelt/
