Which plugs are better.
I'm checking out a rockauto.com looking at some spark plugs wondering which are better. I bought bosch a while back and caught crap for it so I'll ask this time, what do you recommend?
I wanted to do a poll, but I screwed up so.... -Bosch -NGK -Champion -Motorcraft -Autolite -Denso -ACDelco

Motorcraft hands down. No better plug than the OEM one. Not that any of those brands won't work, but from our collective experience the focus likes OEM motorcraft plugs.

motorcraft or autolite.
I retain the fact bosch plats suck. had a customer with a random multi misfire on his ST come in and ask about it. I asked when the last time he did a tune up was and he said just a few days ago. asked what plugs and he said th bosch platinums. Sold him some motorcraft plugs and never saw him again (well not true but his car was fine lol) generally we like to use ngk on japanese cars... I like the v powers. lol. champions are oem dodge chrysler...

My first car was an "old school" 1970 Olds 442. High compression 455 cu in, lots of cam, Rochester quadrajet (like flushing a toilet when you jumped on it!). It would eat every spark plug (including factory ACs) except Autolites, which were recommended to me by a factory trained Olds mechanic. I have used Autolites with good results ever since in Fords, GMs, Chryslers, lawn mowers, etc. Can't go wrong with Autolites, your mileage may vary.

Found out in school that manufacturers use the platinum plugs because the wear factor is so long! They put 'em in new cars and the plugs last beyond the warranty... in larger engines than a four-popper, the replacement on plugs can be a tad labor intensive, but besides that; they'd have to perform your first tune-up under warranty. Platinums are a money-saver for the manufacturers, and a great up-sell at a parts store if you come to the register 'sleeping'. |
