Moving to Germany

Has anyone ever shipped/exported a 2012 Focus to Germany from Canada. We might move there and are wondering if it is worthwhile to ship our Focus over, (only has 39,000 KM on it, so it's in very nice shape) and what sort of hoops I need to go through to register it there.

I've had family ship cars to Hawaii for a tad over $1,000 but not another country.

Just found a site from Germany , TUV Nord, that checks the info of your vehicle to see if it is "legal" to drive there. ie: all the specs are up to their code.

http://www.tuv-nord.com/cps/rde/xchg...cle-93887.htm?

Just submitted it, and now wait and see what needs to be modified, if any.

I don't believe, and I'm a believer, it's worthy.... I mean you can get a nice better car in Germany for that money (money from selling your Focus before you leave and the savings on not having to ship it overseas). Put all that money together and get a European car when you get there, try a manufacturer not available in America, like Peugeot, Renault, Fiat.... And of course, Mercedez, BMW or VW Audi if you wanna go with the local manufacturers, even Volvo. I'm not sure if SEAT is for sale in Germany.

I'd sell it and buy something in Germany. Easier and cheaper.

+1...
I am working in Germany with a lot of colleagues from abroad, everyone has sold their cars and purchased an European car. Not worth the hassle apparently: make it legal (safety/lights), import it (taxes/paperork), the shipping with its insurance. I have my Focus stored in Mexico, but then again I will be only here for a total of 6 months...

Drove a Peugeot over in France a couple years ago, and like it quite a bit.

The company we would work for pays for the shipping over of everything, like vehicle and household effects. (within limits, I assume) This is a Canadian Focus, so most of the issues, like lights and safety, etc, are a non issue, as we follow most of the same safety rules.

Besides all that, the car is paid for, with no loan, and is in great shape with low mileage. Not looking forward to a new car loan, hehe.

Maybe after two or three years we might sell it there and buy a new German vehicle to bring home. Again, most safety and other features are very similar, especially with all the new "world" vehicles being built.

Sell it and buy a Focus ST Wagon when you get there.
