well i checked the bearings and one side of the bearing was portruding a little bit on one side so i pulled the cap and lowered the rod from the crank and pushed the one side down a little bit and re torqued it and now i have a very tiny gap.....

yes. i brought everything to the machine shop, block rods pistons bearings both main and rod and my clutch and flywheel and crankshaft as well.

i went with Toms lil torque specs for the arp 2000 bolts for the rods and it said 43lbs and yea i still get that tiny gap

BTW the plastigage was .001 for clearance, my god damn book doesnt give spec clearances for the connecting rods only the stupid main bearing clearances

Something is off, most common thing the shops don't do, is clear the inside of the rod to the crank, engines won't develope power and screw the bearings. Make them re-measure, if the rods need clearance have them re-balanced as well.

well the bearings i put on for re assemble were the ones that came with my eagle rods....should i try the old stock ones that came off with my old rods?

The bearings came with the rods?? Either way there should not be a gap, undo a rod a compare bearings against the old ones, check clearances on the inside of the rod. Hate to bring bad news but at leadt you catch it soon enough.

well i just fixed the problem. yeah i bought these eagle rods from a ff member barely used and came with bearings in them, so just now i pu tmy old 100k mile stock ford bearings in just now and voila no gap

Get new ones, is a new engine... Shop didn't check the clearance with or without them, re-check so they won't be off, it can seem gapless and be to tight or too loose.
