Frequency Response would be more useful than SPL, but you might also see:

There's more to gain by swapping the head unit, but it's cheaper/easier (???) to swap the speakers.

Yes, I agree. Still sort of new to the whole audio thing. I will see what I can do, but like I said it will be a while.

Don't sweat it - my philosophy is that if it sounds good enough to you, it's good enough - whether that is stock speakers, $30 Pyle speakers, or $500 Morel's.

I swapped my speakers with Alpine Type-S components and coaxials back in October (thanks to this thread), and just had my new RF Prime 4-channel installed on Saturday. Too cold for an amateur to attempt the amp install in Michigan now lol 2 channels are running the fronts @50watts RMS, and I had the rear channels bridged to power a single 10in kicker I had from my old Mustang. Amp was rated @ 300 watts; however, the build sheet said it was cranking 404 max! Extremely happy with the results! Thanks to all who provided guidance in this thread!

Anyone know if speakers with a mounting depth of 2.5" would fit in the front and back? I'm looking to get 2 pairs of these...

Yes, I don't know the exact depth but there is about 3 inches. I would say 3 1/4 at the most. And there's always spacers/adapters. Don't know if you were considering that option but these will work. http://car-speaker-adapters.com/items.php?id=SAK050

Thanks. I actually went ahead and ordered them anyway figuring that I can make them work. I will be putting them in tomorrow night. Any suggestions on what screw type/thread to get to screw the new speakers into the old speaker bases?

If using the stock bases, I would reuse the stock screws or the new speakers may even come with screws. But personally what I do is use a spacer which is mounted and sealed to the door. Then mount the speaker to the spacer using appropriate length screws. The idea is you want to decouple the speaker from the door to prevent rattles and improve sound quality.

For now I'm going to use the stock speaker bases. If I have a rattling issue, I can always go back and fix it with the aftermarket spacer later.
I know to reuse the stock screws to mount the base to the door. I meant what screws should I use to mount the speaker to the base?
Thanks again.

Okay I misunderstood, sorry about that. I would just use 1 inch self tapping screws, something like this. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004XM...ref=mp_s_a_1_1
