I am trying to use the originalspeaker brackets and also reuse the existing speaker plug. Anyone have any idea which side of the plug is positive/negative. I am sure this has been posted in the past, but I'll be darned if I can find it. I also tried doing a search on the web without luck. Help is appreciated.

Yes, but which side of the terminal did you solder the new postive and negativ wires to. This matters.

Yes, this is my question too! Ford does not mark pos neg, and both wires leading to plug are black.

Hey, I am in the process of installing the same speakers. Just wondering, did you disconnect the factory tweeters?

Can you describe the setup? What's the box in the door? Did you keep sync?

There is no ground, the input to the speaker is AC Voltage.

It would be nice to figure out from a harness diagram, but it doesn't really matter.

As long as you use the SAME terminal as NEG at all locations, it will work fine.

If the bass drops off when you set the balance or fader to centered, one speaker is out-of-phase and you need to reverse those wires.

Thanks for the reply. I did some testing on the original speaker and determined the right side of the speaker jack is pos when installed in its original orientation. Hope this is useful to somebody.

Glad you got it sorted out.

Forgot - you can also do a "Battery Pop Test" to sort it out.

Connect a small battery (D-cell or 9V) to one wire and briefly touch it to the other speaker wire terminal. If the speaker cone moves outward, the plus battery terminal is connected to the plus wire. If it moves inward, the plus battery terminal is connected to the negative speaker wire.

Of course, this only works BEFORE you destroy the OEM speakers to mount the replacements.

That's how I did it. I don't recommend a 9V battery. Use a 1.5V AA, C or D.

I don't really wanna make a whole thread about this but I wanna ask something...what are my options for replacing the stock 6 speaker system? As far as I can tell I can:

1) Just replace the actual speakers
2) Add an amp to the stock system with a subwoofer, use a line-out (I think?)
3) Combo of 1+2
4) Completely replace the headunit and lose Sync, which seems to be the most complex method

What am I missing here? Is there a way to power the "normal" speakers better than the stock headunit can and get a sub, without trashing the Sync features and creating all the hassle of #4? I've seen people just use a Android/Windows device with the Metra front interface, and keep Sync but is there yet another way to do it?
