Have the 6-speaker system. Updated all four door speakers to Polk DXI650 today. Sound is a lot crisper and I'm able to turn the volume up without any distortion. The upgrade is well worth the money. Thanks to the OP for the mod instructions and inspiration.

Was the 6 speaker Sony? Were the speakers made by Sony? I have the 10 speakers, but they buzz a touch, or rather, one does.

Six speaker was not Sony.

From pics in first post, speakers are FoMoCo and made in China, but I don't know which subvendor might have made them.

If the center speaker is buzzing - many members felt disconnecting it improved the sound:

Center speaker apparently says FoMoCo also - FWIW ...

Driver's door is where the Buzz was/is located. It comes and goes, been gone most recently.

Some analysis shows that these speakers are difficult to "improve upon" by the numbers. I'll concentrate on finding the buzz, I don't think it's the speaker. Dealer is going to get this as a task, along with a couple other minor things before too much time / too many miles go by...

There is, somewhere on this forum, an exhaustive set of Frequency Response charts done by someone with the equipment, on a MK3 Focus, factory vs. aftermarket. The improvement was, from my perspective, marginal, and probably had little more effect than "placebo". Just my take on what I saw.

Got me curious, but the pics are gone and it was aftermarket and not a Mk3 - so maybe not the right thread.

Anyway -

That said - I'm in no position to talk. On the one hand, I think most anything ($20 Plye Blue Label) probably will sound better than the factory paper dual cone speakers. OTOH, I'm still running the original speakers in my 2002 Focus b/c they don't sound that bad to me.

I did a quick look, couldn't find it again, but I was sure the one I saw was MK3. The thread may have gotten moved, IDK.
