I doubt the insurance co will find out, BUT, the body shop you take it to WILL. I was hit while turning in my Mountaineer just a few months before getting the Focus. The wheel was pushed far past the steering bump stops and the control arm detached. this is common in accidents where the wheel was turned and then hit. SO, they inspected the entire steering system to ensure the bump stops were correct before repairs. They will report any mods to the steering system to the insurer, who will then presumably void your coverage, and request you tow it back to your residence. Trust me here, this is NOT the way to mod your vehicle...I have seen insurance companies drop coverage on much more minor alteration that alter a safety/drivability aspect of a car.

I would not remove myself the limiters if I were you, PratoN.

I was there and I checked whether to go Ti or SEL and the final choice was SEL. Exactly because of the 18" wheels and the limiters that come with them. So, I suggest you either downgrade to 17" wheels and get rid of the limiters or learn to live with them. I, at the time of purchase, couldn't stand them. And I love how my 17" wheels Focus do the 180 turns.

I still haven't, but it's cold. I haven't even done my second oil change... maybe I'll finally do that today.

EDIT: ...No I won't. Because the sun will be down for hours when I get out of work. Perhaps this weekend.

Its not the diameter but the width of the wheels that are a problem. The 18s are 8" wide which is relatively massive for the segment.

People don't report modifications to their insurance company in America. In fact, you don't tell them a single thing. Telling them anything about your car beyond the VIN upon beginning coverage is the best way to have them attempt to screw you. Its a game.

I too would like to know about this, the turning radius is a bit ridiculous, even larger than that of my SVT and I though it was massive compared to my ZX3.

INtersting that Roush is going with 19's on the stage 3 focus they are making...possibly why they start with an SE? No limiters there, but I wonder what width they are going with...

They start with an SE so they can have a manual tranny, PowerShift probably can't handle the superchargers torque output.

The limiters might be in the steering gear ...
http://www.fordparts.com/Commerce/Ca...=Ford&mo=Focus ... click into the steering section.
There is a seperate part number depending upon wheel diameter. In fact, there are a LOT of different steering gears, depending upon build date. That makes me wonder if the newer steering gear I received (took care of high speed stiction / wander) was a newer design. I was lead to believe that it was simply a factory installation over torque issue that screwed up the last one ... time to find the receipt.

EDIT ...
There is also a unique suspension knuckle for the 18's, and I assume a different lower control arm, although it isn't listed.
