AC always on?

Searched but couldn't find this same problem. Is it normal for the AC to come on when the temperature dial is moved into the blue area even though the AC button is turned off? And I'm not talking Max/AC setting just about half way into the blue. I also don't have it on defrost just set to the dash vents. I notice condensation dripping from under the car too after I park it so the AC has definitely been running.

Id imagine that condensation would still build up and drip if its still blowing air colder than the actual outside temperature...regardless if the Air Conditioner it running.

But is there any reason why it would be blowing colder air, and I mean colder, when the AC is off? I've noticed that if I do turn the AC on there is no difference in how cold the air gets.

The only reason I know of that the compressor would run when the AC switch is off is if the defrost mode is selected.

It's not in defrost mode and I'm not sure the compressor is actually running or it's not being fully engaged. When I do turn the AC button on I feel the compressor coming on as I lose performance but the air temperature coming out doesn't get any colder.

OK. If the compressor isn't running, then the A/C is not on. If the temp setting is halfway into the blue, then it's likely that the air coming out of the vents is not any cooler than outside air, even if the compressor is running.

Put the temperature setting as far into the blue as you can without activating Max A/C. Then, turn the A/C switch on and off. You should feel a dramatic difference in temperature with the A/C switch on vs. off. The compressor will kick on when you have the A/C switch on. If this describes how it is working, then everything is normal and A/C is not always on.

I can push the AC button and feel the compressor coming on but even with it off I get cooler air coming out the vents but only when the car is moving. I have a temperature probe and am going to test it out. I tired it with the car idling and the air coming out isn't any cooler than what outside. I have to take it out on the Interstate to really test it as the faster I go the colder it seems to get. Have to wait for traffic to calm down later to test it out at highway speeds.

I'm getting a 10 degree F temperature drop, 67 outside 57 coming out the vent at 80 mph at its coldest. The temperature was fluctuating as I drove and it did a sudden 5 degree drop when I did a hard acceleration to pass traffic and that's when it got it coldest. I'll try it again sometime when its back in the mid 80's and sunny again, maybe by Saturday and see how cold it gets then.

Today on my commute home it got down to 54 degrees F out of the instrument panel vents without the AC on. I'm thinking that the vent position selector is the issue. Either when you have instrument panel vent selected it turns on the AC same as with defrost or my signals are getting crossed and the car thinks it's in defrost mode. I also tried turning the AC on, indicator light lit, and the temperature didn't go down any further so to me this just verifies that the AC is on even though the indicator light is off. And on top of it there is a pool of water under the car in my driveway. So something is not right. Tommorrow I'll try putting the vents to floor only setting and see if it still comes on as it not supposed to in that position and I'll call the dealer and see what they say.
