The unused button on the overhead console

So for those with the sunroof and interior ambient buttons, there is the blank one on the left side.

has anyone found out what its used for or if we could modify it to open our garage door?

My guess is it was to control the map lights that got 86'd on the North America MK3.

Not much space to hide anything up there.
You'd have to be pretty crafty with wiring, I think.

So there is a functional button that goes there? I was just thinking about it today since my garage transmitter is currently hanging from the sunroof lip.

I think it's used in the Escape for something. The sunshade I believe.

If you take the button off, there is apparently an LED behind it.

We (left-side driver seat folk) definitely got the short end of the stick with that set up. I hate the overhead light button on the passenger side of the brightness knob. I just can't see it. And the sunroof open/close button doesn't make any sense for us with it all the way over to the passenger side.

Minor quip - I couldn't really care less. Just an observation.

Damn. That's not a lot of space for a transmitter board...
