No, but sure this speaks to me a lot about your dealer job. Maybe it is time to change it. And fast !!!!

1. Bring it to the dealer first. Talk to them and show them what is all about. To reproduce the noise, just push very slow on the gas pedal from a full stop and you should be able to hear the "grinding" noise. I know mine does it when I feather it almost every time. It is true though, that I am not a "light-foot"er so I don't really hear it anymore. I have 35 000 km on mine already and I am very happy with my Focus' DCT.

I want you to have the concern taken care of, gostinger. Have you called the awesome agents with Ford Canada @ 1-800-565-3673 yet? If you already have, please get a hold of me with what they said.

Sigh... I've been avoiding coming back to the forum since I've really been trying to give my dealership a shot at setting things right with my car, but I'm at the end of my rope, I think. Just to give everyone an update on MY 2012 Focus adventure... I've taken my car back to the dealer no less than 7 times since I got it... and every time for the transmission grinding, among other issues. The 12B37 FSA improved things for awhile and I thought that perhaps all of the problems were behind me, but gradually over time the grinding came back (most pronounced after at least an hour of driving... but always there) and frankly it's flat out embarrassing to drive.

I tried to ignore it for a long time, but it's gotten worse and since the weather turned cold again that, combined with other noises the car has developed (requiring the replacement of numerous suspension parts and now a defective cowling between the hood and windshield) I just couldn't take it any more. My dealership has now had my car for another week waiting on the replacement cowling part and who knows when I'm getting it back. Several days after they replaced the upper strut bushings a month ago (and after telling me that they drove my car and a new car off the lot to compare transmission noise and couldn't hear any difference) I had the car go from first to NEUTRAL (with the engine revving in the middle of an intersection and me slowing in the path of oncoming traffic) until the engine idled down enough to SLAM into 2nd gear moving me out of the way JUST in time to avoid an accident. I just don't trust this car anymore. I told my dealer this last week when I took it in again. I'll post back after the dealership calls. If they've done nothing to address my concerns related to the transmission this time... I'm tempted to tell them to keep it.
What's really lame is dealers straining to "hear the noise" and pretending like they don't know what's going on. We can be fairly sure any dealers that's had more than a few of these cars on the lot will have seen / heard the same issues a number of times. Acting like they've never heard of the issue before or needing iron clad proof of the "the noise" is baloney. When I took my car in for the grinding, my usual luck with these type things kicked in and the grinding noise did not occur during my test drive with the mechanic. Didn't matter though, he seemed to know exactly what I was referring to and recommended a clutch replacement - no iron clad proof required - they know what's going on.

This is my frustration as well. To add insult to injury the guy that they always have take a ride with me is my dealership's "transmission specialist" who NOW always claims to not hear anything... when in fact the noise is ALWAYS more pronounced that when he (back in February) first diagnosed my transmission as making noises that were not right (in his defense of his frame of reference at the time, for cars IN GENERAL... not for this particular model as he admittedly had not yet had the pleasure of working on one yet) and he was also THE guy that replaced my throwout bearing and clutch as a result of his original assessment. It's pretty obvious now that he's either gotten tired of dealing with these transmissions or has been coached to give the run-around and hope that owners just give up.

No Cory, I didn't because I thought it is normal and it doesn't really bother. But if you say I should talk to him, I can do it.

Well the last time I tried to bring it in for the transmission I was left a message on my VM that my appointment is cancelled because there are too many ongoing issues and there is no expert technician available. My awesome CSM told me "theres nothing I can do my hands are tied". I really don't feel like talking to another Ford rep. and explaining my issues AGAIN to them and getting the run around about the way the DCT is suppose to operate. Just to rub it in my face, all the speakers were popping at full volume when I opened the door today....haven't had that happen in a while.... How embarrassing

Tarzanalog,

Please let me help by escalating this up to your regional customer service manager. I can do that when you send me a PM with your VIN, full name, phone number, approximate mileage, and dealer name/state.

My technical adviser said some noise is normal with this transmission, VOLDAR. He said itís literally a manual transmission thatís shifted by electric motors.

Cory, as an FYI for your technical advisor: my DCT doesn't make a grinding noise. Should I make a service appointment to remedy this abnormal behavior?

My dealers said "It's a characteristic of the transmission." But then that begs the question - why doesn't it chatter when shifting into odd gears? I brought it up several times to my dealers that it sounded like a clutch-related issue because it only happens in R, 2, 4 and 6. Soooo I gave up until summer comes around again.
