Smile Installing Perminant Roof Rack 2012 Focus

I am getting ready to install the rack at the link below. I would like to know if anyone has actually done this installation themselves. I can see that you will need to drill the rook. I would like to get pictures of how this was done and where exactly the holes are drilled in the roof. Any body done this?

John

Probably need to take out the headliner and just figure it out yourself which position would give you the most strength to hold it onto the car... Sounds like 4 hours of measuring and thinking and 5 minutes of drilling. Oh and take pictures to do a write up!

If I have to remove the headliner I will not do it. The headliner looks rather difficult to remove...

There is one MKIII owner on here that had the roof drilled for his rack. Not like the one in your link, but still, drilled the roof. Can't remember the user who did it though!

Edit: Found him

How would you secure the roof rack down if you didn't remove the headliner to put nuts on the bolts that you drilled for?

It isn't that difficult to remove, but it will have to be removed in order to install the rack. If you do it - make sure to shore up the bolts with a sealant to avoid larger problems.

OK - have you done this? If so, what sort of sealant did you use? Silicone based? It seems that the seal would need to be applied from the top side.
