hey herbz. i talked with my friend that helped me install mine. he said the kit will work with the steering wheel controls but you have to splice wires. myself being the obsessed compulsive person that i am. i dont like spliced wires period. so i didnt do it. and im pretty sure it would void a factory warranty as well

UPDATE: my appointment has been moved to THIS friday. (the 13th... oops). Super excited to get everything installed.
I did get my Proclip mount for the ipod classic in. It will mount to the dash and be permanently plugged to the mount, therefore i can just take my ipod in and out with out messing with wires. Real clean! The mount: ![]() Sliding the ipod in. It's nice and padded. ![]() Ipod in. ![]() Side profile. ![]() That will be mounted on the right side of the dash. I got a mount on the left side of my dash for the phone as well. I've also decided to order a rear view camera. Type that mounts on your license plate. ![]() It's a Boyo 425HD. I was skeptical at first, but these things get great reviews. It's a real slim design, barely even noticable. I like how I dont have to drill a hole in the bumper for it. It has special locking nuts to make it hard to steal without the special tool for it. And I figure I'm pretty much going all out, and it's very simple to add rear view to this headunit, so why not do it? Just another feature of MFT that I'd like to have without all the hassle. |

Also, I just found this old headunit off my old car (Mercury Cougar). Gonna take off the face of it and glue everything together so that it can be the "coverup" to fool thieves into thinking I have a tape deck... haha. I've seen others do this, aside from an alarm that will ring your phone ($$$$) if anything happens, this is one of the best ways to prevent theft.
I don't drive my car too many places where I'll be worried about thieves, but, this will be a real nice thing to have.

Haha, yeah, it is a major city. I don't live in Boston, but in a surrounding suburb, so I'm not worried about leaving it in my driveway at night. But, when I go to places like the movies, mall, a bar, etc. some protection against thieves is necessary, imo.

So the install is done. Overall I'm very happy with it, looks and sounds great.
There are a few problems that need to be worked out. -alignment of headunit with the ACV kit. It is not centered in the opening on the ACV kit. I don't know if this has something to do with the mounting bracket, but it's tilted slightly upward and there is a fraction of an inch gap on the bottom and right sides of the headunit. My installer made it look decent but I'm a perfectionist and it is kind of annoying to look at. -The door lock/hazard button works, but it lights up red as opposed to the light blue that the rest of the interior has. The hazard button actually should light up red, but the door lock symbol lights up red as well as opposed to the blue that it should. Very minor thing but I'd like to explroe the possibility of replacing the LED in there with a blue one to get it to match. Not a huge deal. -iPod cable is routed through the glovebox. I want it to come out below the radio in the center somewhere. Since i have the ipod proclip mount it is kind of sloppy to have a wire coming out of the glovebox. -steering wheel controls still don't work. i have a possible fix from another member here who sent me an e-mail. Apparently some wires need to be spliced with the factory wires but I'm not exactly sure which ones on the factory side, gonna forward his e-mail to the installer to see if he can make sense of it. Other than that it's perfect and sounds awesome. Trying to get pics but very hard here since the temp outside is around 10. Next weekend when it warms up I'll get plenty of pics and vids. |
