No one really had, which is why many of us were amazed that it basically has two positions - normal and overheated. Which is really stupid, because I always look at my gauges, and on my last car, could see a problem developing BEFORE it did.

Most manufacturers do the same thing with temperature and even oil pressure gauges. The reason, I imagine, is because watching temperature gauges rise and fall as the the cooling fan cycles on and off creates anxiety for lots of owners, pointless warranty trips to the dealer and unhappiness all around.

Even the oil pressure gauge in a Maxda MX5 is basically an idiot light: as long as there is oil pressure, the gauge displays what the oil pressure should be based on temperature and revs. Makes for content owners, but doesn't really give much information.

While the Focus temperature gauge stays at the midpoint for most temperatures, it will start to creep up if temps get hotter than normal providing an opportunity to see something is amiss.

From my experience they are just idiot lights made to look like gauges. My Ford truck had a oil pressure gauge go crazy, 0-normal-0, oil pressure switch had oil in it, when replacing switch I played with it, if I shorted the wires = normal oil pressure. If someone has a wiring diagram they could figure it out.

Just did an oil change @ 32,185 and switch from motorcraft to Royal Purple Full Synthetic and a K&N Filter.

Has anyone else switched and did u notice any difference from the motorcraft?

This may have been mentioned somewhere in this very long thread but I want people to know that my 2013 Focus uses a T27 torx screw to secure the aeroshield, not a T30 as mentioned in the OP.

Drain plug takes a 15mm wrench.
