Active City Stop

NA is left behind... as usual.

That sucks actually. Its been available for quite a long time in Europe.
I'm curious if coming MY15 will have it here in NA.

Give it some time. How long have these systems been in use in NA? Not long. And to be on a cheap car like the Focus?

I guess cheap isn't a good word, but it gets the point across. This isn't exactly a $50,000 vehicle that you will find these systems in.

Europe pays a bunch more for the Focus and in the USA as with most all markets they purposely withhold tech on lower spec cars so they can charge a premium for it with the higher spec cars. Don't expect to see city stop and/or adaptive cruise control on the Focus at all in the USA unless it becomes a mandatory feature. You're likely to see this on the Fusion, as an up-spec option, and it will be a standard feature of the higher end Lincoln line.

Seriously--that would totally freak me out. Backup cameras and lane view assist cameras? Fine. But the car's computer actively taking control of braking and accelerating? Yikes.

Yeah, a lot of folks are on the cell phones and they are a problem, but there's also other on the road who may or may not be on there cell phone and THERE actions can effect you. Ever been brake checked? Ever been driving along on the interstate in heavy traffic and then all of a sudden everyone has to slam on there brakes?

The active city stop feature that's available in Europe is part of a package that includes adaptive cruise control and that's a feature I do want.

I have the backup camera and although I could live without it I like having it. In truth the sonic sensors on all four corners are more useful and I'm really glad I have them as they help the limit rubbing curbs etc.

So, while city stop isn't a must have feature I'd take it if that meant I'd also get adaptive cruise control...

Yeah, I've been driving for over 40 years and in that time I've had exactly two accidents -- both in parking lots -- so I do pay attention.

Interestingly, if I'd had a backup camera with the sensors and active city stop it's just possible that the two accidents I have had would not have happened.

Won't all US vehicles starting 2018 MY require backup cameras? If so, will it be an European requirement before the US?
