A little more research...I do need to add a couple diodes and a capacitor to my puddle lamp circuit. My relay noise is caused by the PWM method of dimming Ford uses; a capacitor should stop the relay from complaining.

The relay noise has been cured. I added a 100uf capacitor and a diode parallel to the relay coil.

The connections to the footwell light.

Radio Shack capacitor and diode.

Quick and Dirty cover up with splicing tape and electrical tape.

Hey Wylee, are your puddle lights on the same circuit as the ambient footwell lights? Only asking cause they behave differently from the courtesy lights that come on when the door unlocks with the fob.

Awesome work on this! Just to clarify, you have an ST1 right? Is the wiring then the same as a base model focus? Because previously in the thread people with non titaniums but with turn signal mirrors were able to add the heated mirrors plug and play. But the puddle lights didn't work. So I am wondering if your circuit for the puddle lights will work in that application, or would it just be easier to tap into the dome light circuit for puddle lamps. For the people they get heated mirrors working via plug and play.

Yes, they're attached to the footwell light. I didn't want the puddle lamps to come on with the dome light. Cars that have an ambient lighting control might have to go to a different circuit.

Yes, I have an ST1 with a sunroof. I don't think base models have a footwell light to tap into. As far as tapping the dome light circuit, I'm pretty sure the relay concept would be the same...interior lights have a switched ground but the puddle lamps require switched positive.

You make a good point, if I tapped the dome light it's possible the puddle lights would illuminate if I turned on the dome light. The dome light its hot all the time I would imagine though, since you can just press the switch to turn it on. I guess I would have to find the circuit that activates the dome light during unlock and door open if I wanted to do puddles. I have ambient lighting so can't splice into the foot wells.

Yeah, the puddle lights definitely become more difficult with ambient lighting. I was just going to go with just heat until I noticed my footwell light didn't come on with the dome light switch. My footwell lights behave exactly the way I think the puddle lights should work so they were a perfect place to power the relay coil from.

Back to the mirrors.....

If you pop out your mirror glass to do this or for any other reason, you may as well pop the mirror cap off and do some sealing while you are at it, if you have noticeable wind noise coming from the mirrors.

With the cap off, if you pay attention to the seams and what not, there are A LOT of places for air to easily pass through. What I would recommend is putting a small bead of silicone at the contact area of every external piece, and let it dry before reassembling. This is so the seams will be sealed once put back together, but without the pieces essentially being glued together by reassembling wet. Also where the bottom inboard sides are at, particularly where the back bottom corner of the cap meets the back side black mirror housing...there are big gaps where air can pass right through from above the horizontal seal at the mirror joint. It also doesn't help that the rear lip of the mirror housing is open/hollow to create additional turbulence. That hollow lip coincidently makes it easy to fill in those gaps at least....stuff some foam in the gap and into the hollow area of the lip on one end, then the other end will end up between the center post area of the mirror joint and the mirror cap when installed.

Anyhow, popping the glass out followed by the mirror cap off is the hardest part. Everything is super easy including reinstall after that, including turn signal and puddle light assys. Made a HUGE difference in wind noise on my car.

If you choose to use the dome light circuit, you'd have to tap into it's 12+ wiring for hot and the "dome light supervision" or "dome light return" for your ground. I'm going to go this route using LED bulbs. Can't use footwell lights as I have ambient lighting.
