Sorry, but I must respectfully disagree on the need for the MSD coil on my Zetec. We have a full race engine with 13.5 to 1 compression. The much higher cylinder pressures require a much hotter spark, we also use 110 octane racing fuel.

According to two highly regarded racing shops the stock Ford coil just doesn't cut it and they proved it on the dyno. The Ford coil is more than adequate for the street cruiser or for profiling through the neighborhood, bot inadequate for a well developed serious racing engine.

So they tested a stock coil against an MSD on your Zetec and it gained TQ

Strange on my 700+HP Zetec it didnt and on my 500HP Zetec it didnt and on every other Zetec I tested it on there was no gain and I couldnt open the gap any further which is what you should be able to do

I even installed the 7AL2 box back in the day with the MSD coil and I had a .025 gap and took it to a .040 gap and got misfire , had to go right back to the .025 gap , MSD was shocked that it didnt help and allowed me to return it

My guess is your dyno shop in general says stock Ford coils done work and there correct but no on the Zetec , stock coil is all you need

Tom

My God! 700+ from a Zetec? Please tell me what was done to it, I have heard of 350 with a turbo but never any figure as high as yours. I would think it would be a grenade for sure. Is this for drag racing or what?

Please give me the particulars on what was done to achieve such an astronomical figure.

Respectfully,

Folis

I do have my dyno in NC and built the engines and tuning in those cars

Those cars were with my built Zetec engines and turbocharged

Since you didn't address it directly, I can assume from your response you are indeed
the famous "Focus Tom" George and Erle talk about.

About the 700+ Zetec, you didn't say what you did to achieve such power? I am very anxious to know your secret. No one I have spoken to today ever heard of such power in a Zetec. My engine is full race and only gets 201 hp at the rear wheels so you can see I am sure in need of some of your magic. Eagerly awaiting your response......

Regards,

Folis

He used a built bottom end, top end, side end, and the other side end with a dash of magic lol. From the hp rating you mention it sounds like your n/a, Tom's beast was f/i. Which is the only way to achieve that kind of power with our motors.

I have SuperTech pistons, Eagle rods, and a Massive Speed System "Ultimate head". I have Jenvy individual throttle body injection and Crower cams. Every component in my engine was balanced and blue printed. I don't care what side up side side by side is used that kind of horsepower is not believable. If, and I say if, that kind of horsepower could be attained by a Zetec it would be a grenade in short order. It could not be used for street, or road racing....so that leaves maybe drag racing? Soon as you dump the clutch BOOM!

ABACUS Racing does our machine work and final assembly, plus all our dyno work, they also cannot figure how you could get "700+" from one of these engines.

Maybe Focus Tom is having fun with us

Try using a turbocharger and you can. In n/a form your pretty maxed out, though the guys across the pond tend to get a lil' more power by going with ITB's.

Sorry, but even turbo charged is not going to give that kind of hp.
If so, who else claims that kind of power? When we were in Texas for the Sevens meet a couple of years ago they introduced a turbo for our Zetecs and claimed 350 hp. Of course I could be wrong, all I want to know is what it takes to get that kind of hp. If this kind of power is true I just want to know what components were used? Still nothing definitive to back up the claim.
